Some flaws, but works well with no fuss
Very easy to use, but v. 1.5.0 still won’t let you set the bitrate of MP3s (it’s locked at 192 kbps) or alter settings for other output formats. There's no online help yet, and the properties dialog for input files only tells you what you already know. It lets you move the play-progress slider when no file is selected (it should be disabled), and track durations aren’t always displayed correctly. The most annoying thing is that the application title (as displayed in the menu bar) should just say “AudioTunes” instead of “AudioTunes - FLAC, APE, WMA converter,” which is way too long for the menu bar.
But those are all minor issues, and other than all that, it’s great! Definitely worth $2 for the ease-of-use alone, without question.
Works for what I need
I had to figure out a way to download music from itunes to my husband’s USB memory stick for his truck stereo. This app allows me to take the music on my macbook pro and transfer it to the USB stick. iTunes would not let me download to anything but cd, no sync, nada… So it was great when I figured out I could just highlight the songs and drag them over to this app… What a great app this has been for me!
I have a library of FLAC files organized in folders by artist and album. Unfortunately this app doesn’t do batch conversion on folders. Also doesn’t have any settings for compressed formats, so I have no idea what quality you’ll get if you choose MP3 or AAC. It could definitely use some user interface enhancements as well (after I’m done converting, can I clear the queue?). Works ok for $2, but I want more.
