Notebooks allows you to create as many books as you need to write, store and structure your details of life, and it will quickly become the one and only repository for all journals, ideas, notes, drafts, stories and diaries but also for your projects, task lists, documents, files and everything else you want to keep close at hand.

Use Notebooks to create carefully formatted documents with styles and embedded photos, or to quickly write plain text notes. Convert between these formats any time, and if you want to use Markdown, Notebooks knows how to handle that as well. It is a perfect, distraction free writing environment.

Notebooks stores and displays almost any type of document: plain text and formatted text, PDF, web pages, MS Office documents, photos, videos, music and much more. Everything you want to keep organized can go directly into Notebooks.

Notebooks also keeps your task lists and allows you to tick off your to-dos as you complete them. Divide your projects into nested sub projects, which makes them easier to handle, and cross-reference into your reference library, which, of course, is in Notebooks, too.

Notebooks can share its files with the mobile versions of Notebooks on the iPad and iPhone, which allows you to conveniently work on your documents from your desktop, but also on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch when you are on your way. The synchronization between the devices currently supports Dropbox and many WebDAV servers (with Dropbox currently being the most convenient option).

Notebooks stores all your documents as regular files on your computer’s hard drive, so you can always access them through Finder to open and edit with other applications, too.

So whether you need to write something down or look something up, you need to have Notebooks on your Mac.

Customer Reviews

I have over 1,400 documents in Notebooks

Taking notes is a breeze since the outliner works beautifully without taking your hands off the keyboard. I’ll take a note in a meeting on my iPad. Update it on my iPhone as I’m talking to someone in the hall afterwards. Sit down at my Mac when I get to my desk and keep working on the same document. A few minutes later I’ve fired off an email with the meeting notes, all perfectly formatted with a stylesheet that matches the one we use on our wiki.

I have over 1,400 meeting notes, documents, and chapters synchronized from Scrivener, all sitting in Notebooks. I use it every single day. For the first time in my life, everything is in one place and instantly searchable, editable, and formatted.

Great productivity tool.

Although it looked potentially useful, I was initially concerned about trying it when I read some person’s review that it didn’t even support basic formatting, such as bold character formats.
However, since that didn’t make any sense based on the other reviews and screen shots, I gave it a shot. WORTH EVERY PENNY— GREAT JOB! I love being above to sync cross platforms across the many notes and todo items that I used to have fragmented across multiple apps/applications. BTW, in addition to a LOT of other important capabilities, it supports bold and other formatting.

Already great; Would love some cosmetic feature additions

I love that this application allows me to edit my markdown files without requiring me to change the structure of my folders! I just opened my vimwiki folder in notebooks; Everything worked the way I wanted it to, and I can still use vimwiki to edit my files. The markdown editing experience is not bad. I would love to have the ability to change the individual fonts used in the markdown preview, or to add custom stylesheets for the preview (I use only the desktop version).
