Amazing detail but fails core functionality

Honestly breaks my heart to give Airmail this rating. In terms of the quality of the animations, the total number of features of the flexibility available for when using the app, this should be a five star rating. If this was the desktop version, it would be. However, the mobile app fails in two very crucial spaces that cost me to eventually switch everything over to Spark mail app. The first is searching – it takes over 15 seconds for search results to show up, which is absolutely unacceptable, and also doesn’t happen on the desktop version. What gives? Second, drafting emails is a pain on mobile. The font selection and any changes made on the desktop version of the app don’t necessarily reflect properly on mobile, as I found out the hard way when drafting an email that went to multiple people and it turned out completely differently than when I had worked on it from the desktop version. These two things are core functionality of any email app and absolutely should not be the things that I should be criticizing Airmail about. As a result I’m forced to give a two star rating, but the developers should know that should these two issues be rectified, I will switch back to Airmail in a heartbeat - everything else is exactly how I like it.

Choice-laden with great support

I’ve been using Airmail on the iPad and iPhone for a year or so, and for the most part it definitely does its job. It is one of the few mail apps for iOS that still can handle POP accounts, and because I have a couple of those, I gave it a try. I don’t use Airmail for business, so I’ve not explored all the options, but for home use it’s been great.

The interface seems overly complex, perhaps because of the multiplicity of options, most of which I don’t use. App is reliable, fast, and certainly the equal of Mail or Outlook on the iPad. Airmail doesn’t always show attachments (even if setting is to download all attachments), and the attachments folder is awkward to use. Not sure what the point of having that folder is. Even if it is necessary, why not show all attachments with icons, if all being downloaded?

A bigger question is why do none of the email programs on iOS allow font choice or colored text? Why can I not draw right on my messages? Does Apple limit what email can do in iOS?

Airmail support is outstanding. I spent a little time on their FAQ page today and before long a live chat window popped up asking if I needed help. Sarah was terrific in quickly answering my questions, and very pleasant, too. Kudos!

Best email app for iOS by a LONG way

I’ve tried just about every email app available for iOS to manage my (predominately gmail) workflow and nothing comes close to the ease of use and reliability I’ve seen from Airmail.

iCloud sync is a lifesaver for account and [more importantly] settings sync across my iPad and iPhone — excellent.

The Customizations and actions within the app can be intimidating at first—due to how many they offer—but after a few minutes familiarizing myself with the app, it all fell into place.

Support from the Bloop team has been nothing short of stellar— I had a few questions regarding account setup at first; and within a few minutes my questions were answered and my understanding of how the app and their services work was exactly where I wanted it to be.
